My Story

My Story......

Gabrielle Marangi Yoga Therapist, RYT 500, E-RYT 200, YACEP

"Sure, whats yoga?" was my 18 year old response to a co-worker telling me "You need to go to yoga.". I was, and still am a person that says yes without asking many questions. Little did little Gabrielle know, that single yes would change the entire course of her life.

I showed up to class and told the teacher "I'm here to do some yoga." in an joking manner. I was signed up, opted for the good ol' 30 days for 30$ unlimited classes new student special that was the studio norm at the time, and rolled out a studio mat. The first thing the teacher said during the opening was "Now, we don't "do" the yoga. We become the yoga." I can only imagine the look on my face when she said this, it was giving Alice in Wonderland's "we are all mad here" energy and I was not there for it.

That first class was a whirlwind, it was hot, sticky, steamy, invigorating, energizing, enlivening and I sang the chant we ended class with for the rest of the week.

"Om Namo Lakshmi, Om Namo Lakshmi, Om Namo Lakshmi, Prema Devi Mataji"

Afterwards, I took 30 classes in 30 days...

Less than two months into finding the practice, I was getting a decent tax return (mostly from write off's from the little bit of college I participated in) so I went to the studio owner and told her I wanted to do Yoga Teacher Training. 10 days later, 18 year old Gabrielle got on a plane to Mexico and began Janet Stone's 200 hour Elements Yoga Teacher Training.

Feeling the ebbs and flows throughout my early 20's, I did not sit still. I was in and out of the practice, modeling here and there, lots of food and beverage industry work snowboarding, rock climbing, traveling, attending music festivals and marching to the beat of my own drum.

After a particularly powerful experience while traveling post the second 200 hr teacher training in 2018, I made the decision to take a sober journey and started teaching yoga full time. I didn't participated in an abstinence based recovery program or work the program, but my spiritual practices in concert with the support of friends, family and community I found my way.

2 years into sobriety I starting teaching group yoga classes to a mens drug and alcohol treatment center. Soon after, they center expanded opening a women's facility. I found myself running their entire yoga program. I was thirsty for more knowledge to support the weathered bodies walking into the studios I was subleasing. So, I enrolled in a yoga therapy training.

Now based out of Reno, Nevada, I see clients 1:1 for yoga therapy at a local drug and alcohol RTC (residential treatment center), lead guided yoga Nidra meditations and sound baths for their out patient program, as well as lead public classes around town, host workshops and lead retreats.

As I look back on how this began, I smile. 18 year old Gabrielle, who really needed yoga, followed her yes and is living her dream!

With deep gratitude and living proof of these practices can not only improve the quality of your life, but help you find purpose, joy and love in the smallest things, it is my passion and an honor to teach.

So, now that you know a little bit of my story, I'd love to hear some of yours!
